Tóchar were happy to support the IRWC in recent times and wish to highlight the publishing of a request for tender for the provision of Administrative/Communications/Technical support for Ireland’s Commitments to the Ramsar Convention and to the Irish Ramsar Wetlands Committee.
What is the Irish Ramsar Wetlands Committee (IRWC)?
The Irish Ramsar Wetlands Committee (http://irishwetlands.ie/) was set up in November 2010 to assist Ireland in meeting its requirements as a signatory to the Ramsar Convention. The Committee is jointly supported and hosted by the NPWS and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Terms of Reference (ToR) were established in 2012, which stated that the Committee draw its membership from:
- Government departments
- Agencies and other bodies
- Local authorities
- Academic institutions
- ENGOs
- Landowners and users
The Committee includes between 10 and 15 representatives from the above. Presently, the Committee includes members from the agencies such as Heritage Council, Teagasc, Environmental Protection Agency, Dept. of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Dept. of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Inland Fisheries Ireland, Coastwatch Ireland, Office of Public Works, Birdwatch Ireland, the Community Wetland Forum, the National Biodiversity Data Centre, the Irish Peatlands Conservation Council, National University of Ireland, Galway and Trinity College Dublin.
The Role
The IRWC members has operated as an advocacy group on the promotion of wetland awareness and conservation since its inception in 2010. It is intended that this contract for administrative, technical and communications support will support the work of IRWC so it can continue to advocate effectively for the protection of wetlands. It is intended that the successful tenderer will provide the core administrative support but also bring focus and clarity in assisting the IRWC in communicating the message of the Ramsar Convention in Ireland. Essential competencies for the communications role will be self-motivation, drive and commitment and excellent interpersonal skills so as to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders.
