This St.Brigid’s Day, we honour the deep connections between women, land, and restoration. Just as rushes and mosses—once essential tools in the hands of women—sustained life, women today are leading the way in restoring our wetlands and ecosystems.
St. Brigid is deeply connected to the land, water, and the cycles of renewal. Her association with rushes—woven into the iconic St. Brigid’s Cross—reflects the ancient relationship between women and nature – especially the wetlands, where rushes and mosses were vital resources for daily life. Just as Brigid was a guardian of healing, and abundance, wetlands are nature’s own healers, storing carbon, purifying water, and nurturing biodiversity. This St. Brigid’s Day, we honour her legacy by restoring and protecting these precious ecosystems, ensuring they continue to sustain life for generations to come.
