The village of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Carbury,_County_Kildare\">Carbury in Co. Unusual in Ireland, it has been owned and managed by a community trust since 1906. It was through that bog trust and group that T\u00f3char Stories came to know Carbury, through the work of local artist and photographer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shanehynan.ie\/\">Shane Hynan<\/a>, secretary of the trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>View:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shanehynan.ie\/portfolio\/beneath-beofhod\">Experience Shane\u2019s Photography<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shane grew up around the bog and his work draws inspiration on our changing relationship with the bog landscape &#8211; and how we value it. The trust manages turf cutting in Knockirr &#8211; across about 20% of the bogland &#8211; and Shane\u2019s work tells that story and documents the changing relationship of people, places and nature with the bogs across the Midlands. Artist Shane Hynan presenting his work in Carbury Community Centre (Photo Stephen Crilly) <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the workshop and Shane\u2019s presentation everyone had the chance to chat over lunch before venturing out for a heritage walk to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchofireland.org\/find-a-church\/parish\/15420\/clonsast-clonbullogue\">Carbury Church of Ireland <\/a>where <a href=\"https:\/\/meathandkildare.org\/news\/meet-our-new-deacons-rev-alan-melbourne\/\">Rev Alan Melbourne<\/a> welcomed people in and even played the organ to showcase the wonderful acoustics of the 250 year church. Locals Charlie Hickson and Liz Potterton, members of the Church, shared its history and how it connects so intimately to family history, particularly that of Carbury Castle and Newberry House, both visible from the church grounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the second of our <em>\u2018Sharing our Past, Imagining our Future<\/em>\u201d community storytelling events and we will share more from the Carbury engagement in video and audio.
